Music Ministry at Trinity Presbyterian Church
Where Every Voice Finds Its Place
Music at Trinity isn't about perfection—it's about connection. Whether you've sung in choirs your whole life or can barely carry a tune, whether you read music fluently or just love to make a joyful noise, our music ministry creates space where every voice contributes to something beautiful.
Our Musical Community
Under the leadership of Interim Music Director Ann Long, Trinity's music ministry offers multiple ways to participate in worship through song, instruments, and the ministry of presence. Ann brings both professional skill and pastoral heart to Trinity's music ministry. Under her guidance, our choirs and ensembles continue to grow in both musical excellence and spiritual depth.
Dr. Diana Scroggins, retired in June 2024 after years of faithful service as Director of Music, but continues to serve as our organist. Diana helped establish the strong foundation of Trinity's music ministry. Her dedication to both musical excellence and spiritual formation continues to influence our worship life, and we remain grateful for her lasting contributions to our musical traditions.
Trinity Chancel Choir
Our chancel choir embodies the heart of Trinity's musical worship, preparing anthems and leading congregational singing for our 10:30 AM service. We rehearse weekly (Wednesday’s @ 5:15) and welcome singers of all experience levels. Whether you're a seasoned vocalist or someone who just loves to sing, there's a place for you in our choir family.
Handbell Ensembles
The gentle beauty of handbells adds a contemplative dimension to our worship. Our handbell groups rehearse regularly and provide music throughout the church year, creating moments of reflection and reverence that complement our liturgy.
Congregational Song
Every Sunday, the most important music happens when the entire congregation lifts their voices together. We blend traditional hymns with contemporary songs, always choosing music that reflects our values of inclusion, justice, and love.
Living Our Values Through Music
Wide Welcome
Music at Trinity welcomes every voice, every instrument, every level of ability. You don't need to audition, read music, or have formal training. We believe that God delights in authentic expression more than technical perfection, and our music ministry reflects that conviction. Whether you're 8 or 88, whether you've sung professionally or never joined a choir, there's room for you.
Deep Discipleship
Our music selection reflects our commitment to following Jesus. We choose anthems and hymns that challenge us to think deeply about faith, justice, and love. We approach scripture through song finding in music a language that speaks to both heart and mind.
Lavish Love
Through music, we express the boundless love of God that knows no limits. Our songs celebrate diversity, call for justice, and offer comfort to the hurting. We understand that music can heal, inspire, and transform in ways that words alone cannot.
Throughout the Church Year
Trinity's music ministry enhances every season of faith:
- Advent and Christmas: From contemplative Advent anthems to joyful Christmas celebrations, our music marks the season of anticipation and incarnation
- Lent and Easter: Thoughtful, reflective music guides us through the wilderness toward resurrection joy
- Ordinary Time: Week by week, our music helps the congregation encounter God's presence in both familiar hymns and new songs
- Special Services: Whether it's a memorial service, wedding, or community celebration, our musicians provide music that honors both the sacred and the human
Special Musical Events
Beyond Sunday morning worship, Trinity hosts musical events that bring our community together:
- Guest concerts
- Special seasonal programs like the Celebration of Christmas

No Experience Required
Never sung in a choir? Can't read music? Worried you're "not good enough"? These concerns miss the point of music ministry at Trinity. We believe that:
- Authenticity matters more than perfection
- Community singing builds relationships as much as it builds harmonies
- God's love extends to every voice, not just trained ones
- Music ministry is about serving others, not showcasing talent
The Heart of Our Music Ministry
At Trinity, music isn't an addition to worship—it's woven into the fabric of how we encounter God and each other. Through song, we pray together, celebrate together, lament together, and dream together of the world God calls us to create.
Our music reflects our progressive Presbyterian heritage, drawing from:
- Traditional hymns that connect us to centuries of faith
- Contemporary songs that speak to today's spiritual questions
- Global music that reminds us of the worldwide Christian family
- Justice songs that call us to work for peace and equality
- Comfort music that holds us during difficult times
Join the Song
Music ministry at Trinity isn't about creating a performance for others to watch—it's about creating an experience for all to share. Whether your voice shakes with nervousness or soars with confidence, whether you bring years of training or simple enthusiasm, you have something to contribute to our musical worship.
Come as you are. Bring your voice. Add to the harmony.
Every choir rehearsal, every handbell practice, every Sunday morning when voices join together in song, we're doing more than making music—we're building the beloved community that God calls us to be.
Contact Ann Long or the church office to learn more about how you can participate in Trinity's music ministry. Your voice—however it sounds—is needed in our choir.
