How We Live Our Mission Together
Trinity's Ministry Teams
At Trinity Presbyterian Church, we believe that being the hands, feet, eyes, ears, and compassionate heart of Jesus isn't the work of a few—it's the calling of our entire community. Our ministry teams embody our core values of Wide Welcome, Deep Discipleship, and Lavish Love through the practical, faithful work of caring for one another and serving our neighbors.
Growing in Faith Together
Christian Education
Led by Mary Terwiske
Deep discipleship happens when we create spaces for honest questions, meaningful conversation, and genuine growth. This team coordinates everything from Vacation Bible School (where 2025's "Road Trip! On the Go with God" brought joy and learning together) to adult Sunday school discussions about "Calvin for Armchair Theologians." They organize book clubs, Bible studies, and "Lunch & Learn" sessions because we believe faith grows best in community. Whether you're wrestling with Calvin's theology or exploring contemporary novels that challenge our assumptions, there's room at the table.
Fellowship Committee
Led by Rodney Martin
Wide welcome becomes real when people experience genuine community. This large, energetic team creates space for connection through everything from Lunch Bunch gatherings to Stars & S'mores nights. Their events—trivia nights, cornhole tournaments, mystery dinner theater, church picnics, and celebration dinners—prove that joy and faith go hand in hand. They've served meals to breast cancer survivors and their families, coordinated riverboat cruises for Mother's Day, and created countless opportunities for people to discover they belong.
Extending God's Love
Mission Committee
Led by Deb Davis
This team coordinates our "lavish love" for neighbors near and far. They orchestrate the collection of loaves of bread for summer sandwiches, create blessing bags for local organizations, and provided Christmas gifts for children through the Angel Tree program. They connect us to our mission partners, and other community organizations like Little Pink Houses of Hope for breast cancer families, support Help-4-Kids and Mobile Meals, and Habitat for Humanity. They publicize and ensure our monthly special offerings reach those who need them most. Every project asks: "How can we be Jesus to someone today?"
Trinity Y2K Childcare
Director: Sandy Eaton
Y2K Board Led by Mary Terwiske
Our childcare program serves more than 50 children and families as a ministry extension, providing safe, nurturing care that allows parents to work while showing children what it means to be loved unconditionally. The program is financially self-supporting and contributes to church projects (like replacing HVAC units), demonstrating how good stewardship creates abundance.
While not a committee, our Community Center hosts 4-6 AA and Al-Anon meetings daily, seven days a week. Participants contributed $16,175 in 2024 and regularly tell us that "miracles happen here every day" and "lives and families are being saved." This ministry embodies our belief that everyone deserves a place of healing and hope.
Arts & Crafts Fair Committee
Led by Lynn Edwards
What started as Diana Scroggins' idea in 2018 to "invite a bunch of strangers into the gym to sell stuff" has become a beloved twice-yearly celebration of creativity and community. Growing from 25 vendors to 40+ creating space where local artisans, church members, and neighbors connect over handmade treasures and Fair Café favorites (thanks to Ed and Judy Oskandy's faithful kitchen crew). Presbyterian Women run bake sales, Boy Scouts earn service hours helping vendors, and the whole community experiences lavish love through the simple act of appreciating what people create in whatever form it may take – from novels by local authors to photographs to hand-sewn goods. It's entrepreneurship meets ministry, proving that commerce and compassion can beautifully coexist.
Worshiping to Form Disciples
Worship & Music
Led by Bill Stewart
Worship is where our values come alive in song, prayer, and celebration. This team ensures that Sunday mornings reflect both our Presbyterian heritage and our Reformed spirit. They coordinate liturgists who read scripture seriously but not literally, arrange flowers that beautify our space, and work with musicians who help us sing our faith. They've installed piano damper systems and welcomed interim Music Director Ann Long, showing how we invest in excellence while adapting to change.
Stewarding Our Resources
Finance Committee
Led by Ray Spitz
Faithful money management is a form of worship. This team created a balanced $345,859 budget for 2025 while reducing our mortgage debt. They handle the practical details that make ministry possible, from weekly offering counts to annual budget planning, always remembering that every dollar represents someone's faithful giving and trust in our shared mission.
Administration & Human Resources
Led by Kathleen Fair
When we say "all are welcome," someone has to make sure our doors are literally open and our spaces are ready. This team handles the behind-the-scenes work that makes ministry possible—from managing our website, weekly and monthly communications, and building use policies (ensuring space for everyone from AA recovery groups to youth basketball) to overseeing staff care and workplace policies. In 2024 a team from Admin/HR and Buildings and Grounds secured a $140,720 security grant and resolved important safety and accessibility questions, always asking: "How do we create a space where everyone can feel safe and valued?"
Building & Grounds
Led by Edward Oskandy
These are the people who ensure our facility reflects our values. When animals found ways into our building, they didn't just patch holes—they thoughtfully addressed the problem with 12 vent covers while respecting all of God's creation. They've invested in solar energy, maintained emergency lighting systems, and organized multiple community workdays where neighbors work side by side. Their work says: "This is a place worth caring for, because the people who gather here matter."
Generosity Committee
Led by Phyllis Wicker
These storytellers help us understand that generosity is about more than money—it's about sharing time, talents, and treasure as expressions of gratitude. Through Birthday Offerings and stewardship education, they help us see giving as a spiritual practice that connects us to God's lavish love.
Endowment Committee
Led by Ray Spitz
Building for the future while serving today, this team grew our endowment to $233,610 in 2024, providing $10,000 in support for current operations while ensuring Trinity's ministry can continue for generations. They also oversee the Stan Pulver Youth Fund, which provided $2,213 in support to young people in our community—lavish love invested in tomorrow's leaders.
Join the Work
Every committee welcomes new members because we believe that everyone has gifts to offer. Whether you're drawn to hands-on service, behind-the-scenes support, creative projects, or financial stewardship, there's a place where your talents can help us be the body of Christ in Surfside Beach.
Our committee work isn't about maintaining an institution—it's about living our faith together. When the Building & Grounds team installs solar panels, they're caring for creation. When Fellowship plans a Stars & S'mores night, they're creating space for connection. When Mission fills blessing bags, they're practicing radical love.
This is how we embody the hands, feet, eyes, ears, and compassionate heart of Jesus—not through individual heroics, but through shared commitment to being a community where wide welcome, deep discipleship, and lavish love are not just words on a website, but the daily practices that shape our life together.
